Somewhere in the mountains of Orava
The St. Joseph Hermitage is planned for the mountains of northern Slovakia, in the Orava region — a land of forests, hills, traditional wooden architecture and long, quiet valleys.
We are looking for a secluded piece of land where the hermitage can become part of the landscape rather than stand apart from it.
A place away from busy roads, traffic and recreational development.
A place where the nearest sound may be the wind in the trees.
Close to nature. Far from the noise.
The settlement will be small and naturally integrated into its surroundings.
The five hermitages will be scattered among the trees, with the chapel at the centre. Paths will connect the individual spaces, while the garden and small farm will remain at the edge of the settlement.
The land itself will become part of the experience.
Walking.
Silence.
Forest.
Rain.
Snow.
Morning light.
Nothing needs to be added.
A place to disappear for a while
We do not need another destination.
We need places where we can step out of the constant movement of modern life.
The St. Joseph Hermitage is intended to be one of those places.
Quiet enough to listen.
Simple enough to slow down.
Remote enough to leave the noise behind.
